Looking after an Umrah group

During Umrah, the guide starts a roll call from his phone and each pilgrim answers with a single button. The guide sees on one screen which pilgrims answered and which are missing. For a missing pilgrim, he opens the card and reads the last known location, with the time and the address of the area.

An Umrah group moves all day long, between the Haram, the hotel and the streets around them. NaSafe helps the guide know who is there, and where to look when someone is missing.

Why does a group scatter during Umrah?

Unlike Hajj, Umrah follows no fixed programme. The group enters the Haram, leaves by another gate, spreads through the shopping streets, returns to the hotel in small batches. In a single day it forms and breaks up ten times over.

And pilgrims do not all move at the same pace. The older ones stop, the younger ones press on. A group of forty people cannot be counted out loud in the middle of a crowd.

What does the guide see when he starts a roll call?

Before every move, the guide starts the roll call from his phone. Each pilgrim answers with a single button. The guide sees who answered and who is missing on one screen, and confirms the ones standing right there himself.

If a pilgrim is missing, the guide opens his card and sees his last known location, with the time and the address of the area. Enough to start looking in the right place rather than at random.

What does a pilgrim do when he gets lost?

One red button, recognisable without reading a word. A lost pilgrim presses it, and his guide receives his name along with his last known location.

And a card he keeps on his phone and shows himself: his name, his group, his guide's number, his conditions and allergies should he need care. It reads in French, English and Arabic. The guide never receives it.

Frequently asked questions

Does NaSafe need a recent phone for Umrah?

No. NaSafe works with the phones your pilgrims already own, old ones included. And if a pilgrim has no phone at all, the guide answers the roll call on his behalf.

How long does it take to learn?

Ten minutes at most, for the guide as much as for the pilgrim. The agency hands out the group code, the pilgrim enters it and fills in his emergency card.

Does a pilgrim need to read to use the alert button?

No. It is the only red button on the screen, and it is recognisable by its colour and its size without reading a word.
